About our mission:
We are small but mighty. We are close knit and caring. We are family. Our vision for our ministry reflects how we see ourselves. Our ministry at Bethany means compassion. Our ministry is centered in nourishment and sustenance for ourselves, service to each other and support for what we believe. We celebrate each other and comfort each other. Our vision for our ministry means there are many outreach events and communal meals, a convivial "passing of the peace" preceding worship and an unabashed sharing of joys and concerns during worship. We welcome our visitors heartily and are hopeful that they will return. We yearn to welcome more and younger members to our community of faith. During the time of pandemic we are holding worship collaboratively with two neighboring congregations. After Labor Day, we will live stream from the sanctuary, as well as potentially resuming in-person worship if conditions allow.
We are seeking a pastor with these qualities:
The next pastor of Bethany Presbyterian Church should exemplify a Christ-centered life. At Bethany we look to our pastor for faithful and stable leadership. The pastor at Bethany is responsible for studying, teaching, and proclaiming the Word, for administering the Sacraments, for praying for and with the congregation and for overall administrative support. He/she will be well versed Biblically and should be able to preach sermons that are relevant, timely and lively; a little humor is always a bonus. The pastor, along with the Session, will encourage the congregation in its worship and service to God and will lead us in our present as well as new areas of ministry and mission. we expect that our new pastor will exercise pastoral care; devoting special attention to the sick and the home-bound. We pray that our new pastor will actively and purposefully lead us in the attempt to grow our congregation. We will look to our next pastor for guidance and leadership in our education programs; especially during the holy seasons of the church year. She/he will be a beacon for Bethany Presbyterian Church and our surrounding community; shining the Light of Jesus Christ in service, welcome and love.
This position may be renewed annually by the session and the pastor. The preference is for an ordained Presbyterian (PCUSA) Teaching Elder, or a minister from a Formula of Agreement congregation.
